February's Challenge- Drink more H20

We've made it to the second challenge of 2015 after launching the new year with a focus on those resolutions you've made. Yes, remember those??? I've been trying to work on mine, and as devout goal enthusiast myself, I decided to broaden my level of goals this year to include some not as obvious ones such as: expanding my vocabulary, learning new words, and brain power boosters. Ever heard of a battologist or cattywhampus? If you haven't, you're welcome. Other brain power boosters I'm doing include researching various historians, authors, and worldwide famous artists. It sounds cheesy, but believe me, it's fun, interesting, and I expand my knowledge a bit more. But keep working on your resos, and keep in mind I will set monthly challenges; tackling health, happiness, and overall well-being.

Now let's dive straight into this months task: drink more H20.
We are going straight back to the basics of life. Water. Extremely important for our bodies and yet its often one of the many things we take for granted. Roughly 60% of our bodies are made up of water and our bodies rely on water to keep up on everyday functioning. Winter often becomes a time where hydrating ourselves is forgotten as we no longer rely on the Summer heat and perspiration of our bodies to cue us of our rehydrating needs.  As a result, dehydration can heighten during those dry cold months.

Before I do anything in my day I always, (and I mean it) always start my day off with a big glass of water. In fact, I also end my day with a glass, too. The struggle happens when I zip through my day and realize I've gone 12 hours without peeing. Oops! Not good. So to rectify my issue I now carry around a big water bottle that shows me how many ounces of those molecules I am consuming. It's great. So if you're having trouble, get a water bottle. Other options are numbering your prepackaged water bottles or putting reminders in your phone to keep you aware.

And then I hear from some, "but I hate water." I personally adore water so I can't necessarily relate, but I can see why people may not be as naturally motivated to consume more. If that's you, perhaps consider infusing your water with different fruits, cucumbers, or opt for your standard lemon/or lime to give it a little zest.

Why do it???
  • Your body depends on it for its survival!
  • Water gives you more energy. It's true. Feeling sluggish can be associated with lack of hydration. So when you're tired try reaching for a tall glass versus more caffeine contained beverages.
  • Aids in digestion and constipation by softening your stools.
  • Helps your body absorb nutrients.
  • Clears out toxins and waste in your body.
  • Regulates body temperature.
  • Helps with headaches.
  • Good for your metabolism.
  • Increases blood circulation. And helps with blood pressure.
  • New research suggests water can actually help bump up your mood!!! Now you don't have to be so crabby ;)
  • It's just so so good for your overall well-being!

How Much???

General average is around 64 ounces or 8 cups.

Are you up for the challenge this month? Try starting your day out with a glass right after you wake up. Keep me posted on whether you notice any differences. Cheers!

  1. My doctor told me that the 64oz rule is a good guideline, but it actually depends more on your weight. He said you should drink half of your weight in ounces every day... So I'm right on track with 64oz, but, for example, Travman would not be :) Then you have the crazy people like Matt K and my co workers who are consuming close to 2 gallons a day... How does anyone have that much time to drink and pee everyday? haha
